Kalymnos is well known globally as a premier climbing destination. June is an excellent time for climbing enthusiasts to visit, as the weather is typically warm and stable, but not as hot as in the peak summer months of July and August. The island's rugged terrain, filled with limestone cliffs and caves, offers routes for various skill levels. The island enjoys a Mediterranean climate with temperatures ranging from 20°C (68°F) to 30°C (86°F). The Aegean Sea is also known for its Meltemi winds, which are northerly winds prevalent in the summer months. This wind provides a good balance for sailors seeking both a relaxing cruise and a bit of challenge.
SAILING
Sailing in Kalymnos during June is a delightful experience, characterized by ideal conditions for sailors of all levels. The Aegean Sea around Kalymnos is typically calm and inviting, with a gentle yet steady Meltemi wind that picks up in strength throughout the summer, making it both challenging and enjoyable. CLIMBING
Kalymnos is just THE climbing heaven. This island, often hailed as a climber's paradise, offers more than just traditional climbing opportunities; it's a full-blown adventure, especially when combined with sailing. The option to combine climbing with sailing adds an element of adventure and exclusivity, making it a unique experience in the climbing world. Whether you're a seasoned climber or a beginner, the island's cliffs, caves, and crags provide an unforgettable climbing adventure in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The island's rock formations are mostly limestone, characterised by its unique texture and formation. It provides a range of features such as tufas, crimps, pockets, and overhangs, making the climbing experience both challenging and enjoyable. The routes in Kalymnos are well-maintained and bolted, ensuring safety and reliability. The diversity in the rock formations allows for a wide range of climbing styles. From the smooth, water-washed rock along the coast, ideal for deep water soloing, to the more rugged and featured rock found in higher areas. The quality of the limestone also makes it suitable for longer multi-pitch routes, providing a stable and enduring climb over several pitches. The island boasts over 3,400 well-bolted sport routes across a wide range of grades, multi-pitch routes to climb higher up the island's iconic limestone cliffs and deep water soloing (DWS), this style involves climbing without ropes over the sea, where the water acts as your safety net.
